Went there for my cat with a ruptured tumor several months ago. Waited for one hour and half to be seen. The vet treated my cat for 5min and just told me she is going to do the paperwork for checking out without saying anything else. Waited in the treating room for another hour. Finally tracked the vet down and she just told me she’s been busy. She didn’t even bother to send anyone to let me know what’s going on. Cannot recommend this place to anyone.
I recently had to put my dog down very suddenly. We didn’t know what was wrong with him and we brought him here. We unfortunately found out that he was full of cancer and we had no idea. The staff could not have been nicer or more supportive. They presented us with ALL the options and were clear about each one. They did not sugar coat his prognosis but delivered the news gently. I did not feel like they just wanted me to choose the most expensive option, they actually really cared about my dog. Every single staff member was empathetic and helpful. During such a difficult time, all you can hope for is kindness and support. That is exactly what we got. Highly recommend this hospital for any pet.
We took our 14½-year-old dog to Mass Vet Referral Hospital for a diagnosis of a puzzling onset of symptoms. Our local vet suggested some possibilities but recommended a neurological workup at Mass Vet and likely an MRI to determine the true cause. We found Mass Vet's website very helpful in terms of information available about the vets on staff. We got an appointment for the day after we called, with a vet whose experience and education gave us great confidence in his ability to help us. We were not disappointed. Every aspect of our visit was friendly and professional, and we were carefully listened to by the vet and his assistants about our dog's history and current condition. He assessed our dog and gave us a diagnosis, carefully explaining why he came to his conclusions. In our case, the diagnosis meant that no further testing or treatment was necessary and that she would recover on her own. That has proven to be true. We were relieved - and saved the expense to us -and the ordeal for our dog - of having an MRI. The fee for the diagnostic visit was high, yes - but worth every penny. We would definitely use this facility again. We wish we lived closer to it!
There is much that shapes an opinion of a place - the feel, the friendliness of the support staff, phone etiquette, the doctors, the empathy, the accommodations for waiting patients, the services offered etc. etc. I experienced Mass Vet Referral from both an emergency hospital perspective as well as a patient parent to see a specialist. Every time I have called, their support staff has been courteous and helpful - beyond compare! Their environment is friendly and the snacks, coffee and hot beverages are something small, but important when you are waiting for tests to be completed. I especially liked the lantern they had at the front desk, asking visitors to be respectful if it was lit (meaning a pet parent was letting their animal go). The emergency vet was EXTREMELY patient with me as I tried to decide which way to go with diagnostic testing. She afforded me as much time as I needed in the exam room and kept coming back and forth to check in. I spent A LOT of time researching internal medicine specialists - I was looking for someone who had been in the field for a while - with solid practical as well as theoretical experience. I saw Dr. Diane Philips and for the first time in 30 days felt a HUGE sense of relief with her. Finally someone took my issues seriously - she suggested tests that were necessary but was not an alarmist. Her bedside manner was incredible - she was patient and allowed me to explain details of importance and details I just wanted to share. Never was I rushed or made to feel as though I was babbling. As I was walking back into the exam room with her - a nearby couple who must have seen her in the past, said to me " you are in such good hands - she is wonderful." and I couldn't agree more. I highly recommend this institution - for their competence, friendliness and range of high end diagnostic tests they can do right on site to provide you with answers. Kudos to the management for employing top notch people and for their constant reinforcement of the need for excellent customer service. Obie is doing very well at this point and I'm very grateful I found Mass Vet Referral.
The facility is excellent and the staff has been very supportive. I just started taking my dog there as he was diagnosed with cancer. Will update the review as things progress. Very happy so far.
Update: We are now one treatment away from a clean bill of health. The oncologist Dr Kaye and his wonderful techs are really great. I really appreciate how the techs take the time to explain everything to us and it is clear that they really love the job and the patients. Highly recommend it.
